Dustbin Rounders Fun in the Sun
Friday 10th May

This afternoon we joined Year 4/5 for some Dustbin Rounders - the theme for our Physical Education during this half term is striking and fielding. We have been able to practice batting and fielding skills with a variety of balls and bats, it has been great to consider the best tactics to score the most runs for our team.

Science
10th May 2024

As part of our science topic this half term, we have been learning about the growth of plants.

We have carried out an experiment to discover what conditions are needed to enable a seed to germinate and grow.

We placed our beans in a pot of soil and then put them into three different environments.

The beans that were put into the fridge did not grow at all !

The ones that were left to grow in a warm room were the most successful. We have planted our beans in the vegetable plot at school and each week we will be watching them grow.

Ancient Egyptian Showcase
26th April 2024

It has been a fabulous start to the Summer Term, we had an excellent Ancient Egyptian Showcase last week. It was great to share with the families the work that the children had achieved in the Spring Term. The children performed some wonderful songs with Year 4 and 4/5 and then shared some of their learning with their families back in the classroom. We have been so proud of the knowledge that the children have retained and they have really shown a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity during this topic.

In Gymnastics this term we have been learning to use balances on the apparatus. We have been putting together sequences using different ways to travel between the apparatus. These sequences have been performed and evaluated so that we can help each other to improve.

We have really enjoyed using Scratch, we have had to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. It has been good to explore the programme with our peers and everyone has grown in confidence and learnt something new.

Walk Like an Egyptian

This week we practised our Egyptian Dance routine before completing our final PE lesson and video performance in the hall.

We all really enjoyed this unit of learning and learnt some brilliant Egyptian moves!

Spring Term in Year 3

During the Spring Term we have been exploring the History of Ancient Egypt. In English we have been rewriting the tale of the Egyptian Cinderella. We have been looking at the similarities and differences between this story and the traditional tale of Cinderella. It prompted some excellent discussions about how the main characters were treated and how this would have made them both feel.

In Art we have been finding out about Egyptian Hieroglyphs and using these special symbols to write our own names. We have also been using different materials to create portraits of Tutankhamun and have looked at patterns and colours when creating our own pharaohs designs.

We went on a fabulous trip to the Box Museum in Plymouth where we were able to explore Ancient Egyptian artefacts and experience being curators.

Children's Mental Health Week

During the final week of Spring 1, we have been taking part in Children's mental Health Week. It has been the focus of our whole school assembly this and also our PSHE lessons. We have had some very interesting discussions about how we can look after our mental health and wellbeing. The class chose from a variety of wonderful activities, they worked with each other and enjoyed reflecting on their emotions and feelings.

NSPCC Rocks - Maths Day

On Friday 2nd February, the children had an amazing day taking part in the NSPCC Rocks Day. They came into school dressed as Rockstars and took part in lots of fun maths activities. We competed against children in Year 4 and 5 in a Times Table Competition on TT Rockstars and used our maths skills to play different times table games. The children also bought in a variety of games from home to play with their friends. It was a lovely way to raise money for the NSPCC and to have fun with maths.
