We have had a lovely week together enjoying the sunshine and have enjoyed some outdoor learning where the Year 5's in the class created some outdoor pictures taking inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy whilst the Year 6's did two afternoon performances to their parents. We have also enjoyed doing some 'races' with a difference - leap frog, cartwheel, crab walking, commando shuffle to name a few- all of the class also enjoyed some forest school time with Denise where they were able to toast marshmallow's. We had a lovely class party with games, food and singing. Thank you all for letting us look after your children this year. It has been a pleasure to watch them progress and grow as individuals. You should be proud of them all.

Some of this weeks amazing learning!
Year one children have been exploring features of a poster this week in
English. They have been revisiting how important it is to stay safe on the
beach and what important job the RNLI does. They have been identifying features
and remembering how to use capital letters and full stops when writing their
sentences. The children then used their knowledge to plan a poster that they
wanted to write and today they created a wonderful poster including lots of
information about water safety and the RNLI.
In maths the children have been exploring time, they started the week
using words such as before, after, first and next. They then explored days of
the week and months of the year. They used calendars to work out what date and
days activities were taking place!
The Year 1 children have also been writing postcards from the point of
view of Victorians this week and recalling all their knowledge about how
visiting the beach was different in the Victorian times.
The foundation children have been using so many wonderful skills this
week, they have made beautiful decoupage shells with Mrs Gregory, the children
had to think carefully how to apply the glue to the shell, cut out their chosen
picture and then paste it together, they have turned out beautiful. The
children have also been making repeated patterns in maths, using their memory
and recall skills in beach pairs, they have been labelling pictures for Miss
Hughes and making wonderful beach scenes.
In phonics the children have continued to work really hard. Some
children are on assessment weeks and some children continue to work hard to use
their phonic knowledge to read tricky words and write amazing sentences.
The children continue to make us proud every day with their effort.
Next week will be our last full week of the academic year and we have
lots of amazing and fun learning planned!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

We have had another wonderful week in year 1.
We finished off our maths unit of money this week with a fun, practical lesson. We had to buy ingredients to make biscuits! We used our understanding of coins and our addition skills to collect the right amounts to buy our ingredients from Miss Bolger and Miss Masters. We could then decorate our biscuits with what we had bought! They were very tasty! We loved gathering the correct money and using our problem-solving skills.
In English, we have been learning all about the RNLI to make an informative poster. We have watched videos, looked at books and used the information we found out at the lifeboat station to gather our facts together. We have also been learning how to stay safe at the beach and collected some top tips. We have really enjoyed learning more about the RNLI and we now have lots of facts to add to our poster!
I am looking forward to our final full week and all the activities we will be doing to celebrate the end of the year!

This week has been a very busy week and a wonderful one too!
Some of year one’s learning:
The year one children have been using their new knowledge of recounts
and writing a recount about their trip to Looe Beach last week! The children
included some wonderful features in their writing. In maths the children have
continued to explore money, they learnt about the value of each note and then
worked hard to understand how many £1 and £2 coins make up each note. In
History the children explored beaches in the Victorian times and sequenced
pictures that explored the change in seaside areas across the years!
Foundation children have been making sea creatures from plasticine and
exploring positional language in maths. They have worked hard at writing about
items they may need to take to the beach, and they have also been writing post
cards about their trip to the beach. They have also been so creative making
wonderful crabs out of paper plates.
On Tuesday we had our transition day, and the children spent the day in
their new classes. This was a lovely day, and the children were amazing!
Today we were so lucky to have Tom come into school, a local fisherman,
and show us the fish he catches, how to filet them and also his life jacket
that keeps him safe when he’s out to sea! This was amazing to show the children
how our food gets to our plate, and we learnt so many wonderful facts!
What a wonderful week we have had!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

We have been raising butterflies in our class over the last few weeks. We watched them grow as caterpillars, turn into chrysalis, and then hatch into butterflies! It gave us a hands on understanding of lifecycles.
We have compared the lifecycles of butterflies, ladybirds and ants, noticing differences and similarities.
We took the fully grown butterflies up to the field where there is a conservation meadow area, this was the perfect place to set them free!
We watched as they fluttered away with an enormous sense of pride and joy!

The residential and day trip season has well and truly arrived at Looe Primary! Our Year 6 pupils enjoyed 3 nights and 4 days at Hendra near Newquay last week, supported by Kernow Sports and Leisure, one of our sports providers. As you can see, they got up to all sorts of activities, including segway, body boarding, adventure challenges and a day trip to Camel Creek. Even the staff got in on the act at the silent disco with evidence of Mrs Higgins dancing away with the instructors! The staff were very proud of the children and hopefully they will have some lovely memories of their last few weeks at Looe Primary School.
Our Year 5 children will enjoy their residential this week and the Year 4 children recently enjoyed a visit to Longleat for 2 nights and a trip to Cheddar Gorge on the way home. For the other year groups it has been a season of some wonderful visits to local venues, including the beaches in and around Looe, Plymouth University, the Sardine Factory/Heritage Centre etc.
We are now all eagerly anticipating the Year 6 drama production in the next few weeks - before we know it, it will be the end of the school year. Where did all that time go?

This week we have been learning about how to make scones. We have ordered instructions and then written some of our own. After this we have been able to make sweet and savory scones. The best bit was definitely tasting them at the end.

We certainly started this week with a wow moment of learning!
Our Looe beach trip and visit to the RNLI was absolutely amazing and the
children were such a wonderful example of how wonderful Looe Primary Academy
is! Members of the public approached staff to say how wonderful the children
were!
The children were fantastic walking down to the beach from school. When
we got there the children explored the area, played parachute games, football
and built sandcastles. Al the children had the chance to visit the RNLI station
and the wonderful Carol and Ian took us on a tour and told us so many wonderful
facts about the crews uniform and the equipment they use. What a wonderful way
to immerse ourselves in our learning!
The year 1 children have had assessment week this week and have been
showing the adults how amazing they are and what knowledge they have in maths
and reading.
The foundation and year 1 children have been making sea creatures from
plasticine, counting sea creatures in rock pools, using their cutting skills to
make rock pool pictures, writing sentences and so much more!
The children are becoming brilliant at tennis with coach Ryan in PE and
it was lovely to see their progress in yesterdays PE lesson.
Another wonderful week of learning! Three weeks left!
Next week is our whole school transition day on the 2nd where
the children will spend the day in their next class with their new teachers! So
exciting!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

It has been a brilliant couple of weeks in year 1, and we have been very busy! Last Friday was our sport’s day. We took part in activities such as long jump, football and throwing. We then did our running races at the end. We had an absolutely brilliant day and we showed our school value of determination, collecting as many points for our house team as we could. Year 1 also showed great sportsmanship and cheered on their friends on each activity. Safe to say we were pretty tired at the end of the day!
On Monday, we had our beach trip with the foundation/ year 1 class and nursery. We started our trip at the RNLI station, finding out information about the work they do. We found it really fascinating that they have only 90 seconds to get dressed and ready when the alarm is sounded. We all agreed that we can hardly put our shoes and socks on in that time! We enjoyed looking at all the boats they take out on the water, and learning what we have to do if we get into trouble at sea.
Just a few reminders for the upcoming weeks:
- Please remember to send your child in with a sun hat each day.
- PE days are Monday and Friday
- Whole school transition day is the 2nd July, where your child will meet and spend the day with their teacher for September
I am looking forward to all the activities we get up to as we move into the last few weeks of school before the holidays.
Any questions as always, just let me know.

What a busy couple of days we are having!
Residential and trip to Plymouth University
I hope that, by now, you have heard all-of-the stories from the Year 4
residential. It is safe to say that fun was had by all. And, for those who went
to Plymouth University, they report to us that they had ‘amazing fun’ with Mrs
Marshall in Plymouth. Well done to all of the Year 4s who were a credit to us. Thank
you to you all for all of the positive comments you wrote on our Facebook
page. If you have not already gone
across to see the updates from the residential, please feel free to see what
your children were up to!
Sports Day 2024
Sports Day was a triumph again this year. The children moved around the chain of
activities enthusiastically and showed both a healthy team spirit coupled with the
drive to ‘win’ personal races. Well done to the ‘Green Team’ for their deserved
win. And well done to everyone for giving it their very best.
Transition Day
Next Tuesday is our transition day.
Children will come into school as usual on Tuesday and will be escorted
to their new classrooms. They will return
to their usual classroom at the end of the day for a normal pick up.
Quick Note
As it is hot, please do send your child into school with a sun hat and
or sun cream if you feel they need these things.
PE
Please be advised that PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Children MUST
come into school in their kits with a water bottle. All children must be wearing trainers. Shoes
really are not suitable for the athletics that we are completing on both of the
days.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Some of Foundations exploring:
This week foundation have continued to write sentences linked to seaside
pictures. They are improving day by day! The children have been using scissors
lots in funky finger activities this week to ensure they can hold scissors with
ease. In maths the children have been exploring repeated patterns, they have
made seaside repeated patterns and have worked so hard, even with the tricky
ones!
They have also , made sea bubble pictures using bubbly paint, designed
sandcastles and lollies, made sea creatures from plasticine and so much more!
Some of Year 1’s learning this week:
This week the year ones have started to explore recounts in English,
they have been learning what features make a great recount. They have also been
revisiting conjunction ‘and’ and time conjunctions too and using these in their
writing. They will be writing a recount of our beach trip next week!
In maths we have finished our place value to 100 unit and have begun
exploring money. During Science this week the children tested the houses they
have made and tested whether they could withstand the wind and whether they had
made a waterproof roof! The children chose great materials, and the houses were
very effective!
In PSHE all children continued to explore how we have changed over time.
Some children brought in pictures of when they were babies and we played ‘guess
the baby’ It was really tricky to guess as the children have changed so much!
We have also been competing in the Bridge School Games this week and completed lots of different sports activities! Come on Looe!!
Today was Sports afternoon and it was amazing! The children did so well
and had so much fun, as did the adults. I think the children and adults will
sleep well tonight!
Its been a wonderful week of learning!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

ambitious vocabulary and using capital letters and full stops in their wiring.
In maths this week the children have started to explore place value to
100! The children have been counting from 50-100, counting to 100 in tens and
also learning how to partition numbers to 100.
In PSHE all children explored how we have changed since we were born and had lots of discussion about how our bodies have changed and what we can do now that we couldn’t do then!
In PE all the children have continued to explore tennis skills with
Ryan, and they are progressing really well.
It’s been another wonderful week of learning.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

Today we went to Plymouth University with some of the children in Year 4 and 5. While we were at the University, we took part in a Carbon Literacy Workshop led by Taylor and Wimpy who are a housing development company. We learnt a lot about how houses are built and the different roles within this choice of employment. In this job, there are so many things to consider especially when you have to think responsibly about the environment.

Today the children had a fantastic day in Looe and spent the day on the beach and had a very informative visit to the Lifeboat station. We were able to find out lots about the role of the RNLI and the coastguards. We also know how to get help if we should have an accident while we are at the beach or in the sea. It was great to see how important the RNLI are in a town like Looe. Maybe this might be a job that we would like to have in the future.

We have a very busy final term lined up for year 1, but full of exciting learning opportunities!
Our new big question for this term is what's it like to be beside the seaside? We will be using this as inspiration for our history, learning about the difference between seaside holidays in the past and seaside holidays now. I look forward to exploring this with year 1!
Just a few updates for this term:
- Our PE days will be on a Monday and a Friday.
- Phonics screening check starts on the 10th June and will take place throughout the week.
- 21st June is sports day. Ours will take place in the afternoon. More information to follow.
- 24th June is our trip to the beach. Letters have gone out about this trip.
Any questions let me know. I think we are in for a great term!

so hard to recognise and find halves and quarters!
In History we explored seaside holidays then and now and we compared going
to the beach in Victorian times to going to the beach now!
The foundation children have been impressing Miss Hughes with their phonic
knowledge and have been writing sentences to match pictures about the seaside!
The foundation children have been exploring sharing in maths and they have
worked so hard.
